Makaranga Garden Lodge

After yesterday’s seriously hot weather I was really happy to wake up to something approximating normality today. As there was a big Triathlon down at the beach we headed inland to Kloof for some lunch and a wander around Makaranga Garden Lodge. They serve seriously delicious pizza, so definitely order yourself some if you visit. As a side note, if you’re going to lark about in fallen leaves and flowers, be prepared to itch until you get home.

Some Kids are Too Cute

How cute is Ethan? He belongs to my cousin-in-law and for some reason he actually likes to listen to me when I ask him to do certain things. Never had that before. I think it’s mostly so he can see the pictures of himself immediately on the camera screen. I don’t normally watermark my images but I definitely don’t want these being used by randoms all over the internet.

A Not So Wintery Durban 2

This long weekend went by way too fast. Today was a bit windy but we headed down to the Point to for a wander. The man in the Coke shirt is Christopher, he’s one of the coca-cola cart hawkers that wander the beach front. He wasn’t too keen on having his photo taken at first but after I thanked him and walked away another hawker called me back and started directing Christopher to take of his beanie and how to stand. I’ll take him his pic sometime next weekend.

We wanted to get out of the wind for a bit so headed off around the development area. If you’ve ever thought that the canal looks like a nice place to swim, don’t do it, for some reason there are Lionfish in it as well as a really rather large mullet. If all the buildings down on the Point looked like the two story semi-detached ones, I think it would be a fantastic place to live. As it is, I’m not sure I could live there.

Meet The Lynches

Since we met Bevan and Philippa a year ago at the I Heart Market, we’ve managed to bump into them pretty much every month somewhere in Durban. While I don’t know them as well as I would like to, what I do know is that they couldn’t be more perfect for each other if they tried. They are two of the nicest, most genuine people I have met and I am truly honoured that they asked me to photograph their wedding. Thanks for being two of the bravest people I know and giving me a chance guys, I wish you nothing but the best for the future.

Please note I will add a detailed list of suppliers as soon as Bevan and Pippa are back from honeymoon.

Vodacom Durban July 2012

Another year, another Durban July! People from all over the country flock to our fair city to hobnob with celebrities and sip on champagne while horses trot around a rather large oval. I reckon that at least 70% of people barely even know there are horses involved but it’s a great excuse to dress up, lark around and aerate the soil with their stilettos. Below are some of the fabulous people I spotted wondering around between races.

The Other Children

Last night I received a mail from my mother asking why I hadn’t posted any of the photos I took of the dogs when I went home in June. Mom, this one’s for you.

Midlands Dreaming

How gorgeous is Angie? I mean really, how pretty!! I bet all of you who know her are just as proud as I am right now (and a wee bit jealous). Last Sunday, while I was bundled up and complaining about the cold, Angie was swanning around the midlands in pretty much next to nothing. and boy was it worth it.  How beautiful is that blue dress by Eb+Am?

The photographer who made it all happen is Gabrielle Evans of Gabrielle’s Photography. Gabrielle is a freelance wedding and portrait photographer and works mostly in Umhlanga and PMB, where she grew up. She was lucky enough to study photography and work in a studio environment in the Cape before moving back to KZN.  In her own words:

I love photographing anything that moves, especially kids, models and weddings (not a landscape type of photographer)

If you’re looking for a photographer to capture your special moments then give Gabrielle a call on 074 137 4377 or email her on [email protected]

Jeff Divine – Surf Photographer

Following on from yesterdays vintage Summery goodness here are some pics by Jeff Divine.

As one of the first photographers to document the rise of surfing on the North Shore in the 70s and 80s, he’s a true pioneer of surf photography. Each of his images is a small glimpse into what life was like as a Surfer when the sport truly started to evolve. While the Vietnam War was coming to an end, the hippies were all partied out and Jim Jones was preaching to his followers in Guyana, small groups of Surfers were pushing themselves and their boards as far as they possibly could.

Below are just a few of my favourite images. If you’d like to see more then definitely check out Jeff Divine’s website.

It’s Always Summer In California

While cruising the interwebs this evening I stumbled on beachbonfire.tumblr. Right now I’m longing for a past I never had; a summer holiday in California in the seventies. How much fun? I love images from SoCal no matter what era they’re from so I kinda feel like I hit the jackpot. There are a ton of surfing, skating and general Summery photos on the site so check it out. In the meantime, here are some of my favourites.

Second pic is Tony Hawk in 1982.

I Heart The I Heart Market

Wow, how fast is this year flying by, it’s May already!! With each new month comes another market. I was seriously rushed yesterday which is why there is a severe lack of photos, sorry about that. We blew in and blew out again so fast it’s a wonder I had time to speak to anyone. I have been asked to guest post on the I Heart Market blog so the majority of my photos will be going up there. Stay tuned for my top 5 picks of the day. Have a fab week everyone.
