Danny Santos – Street Photographer

Due to my intense love of close-up portraiture, I feel as if I just stumbled upon photography gold.

Danny Santos is a graphic designer based in Singapore. He likes to get out on weekends and shoot random strangers on the street. His favourite place to do this seems to be Orchard Road, which is the retail and entertainment hub of the city. I love that none of his photos are styled, taking photos of strangers is something I love to do. I’ve just never worked up the courage to actually ask their permission first. I think it’s time.

Below are some of my favourites from his “Portraits of Strangers” series and a few others from his other galleries. You can see more of his work on his facebook page and flickr or follow him on twitter.

November Markets

It’s my favourite week of the month!!

The Night Market is on once again at the Quays on the Point Waterfront this Thursday. Yummy food, great music and loads of people milling about.

The I Heart Market is taking place on Saturday at Moses Mabhida. I’ve been doing my anti-wind dance so hopefully we won’t be blown away like last time. The tent will also now be at the bottom near the fountains, so that should help. There was some seriously good food on offer in October. I’m planning to stuff my face every hour on the hour. As far as I know there is a credit card facility available but as it’s at the stadium there is also an ATM.

Hope to see you there.

Industrial Living

I’m definitely loving the industrial revival going on at the moment. Raw brick, untreated wood, concrete flooring and exposed beams with large windows and truly iconic furniture. If I’m ever lucky enough to own a space as beautiful as some of the images below I will be one very happy bunny.

The Silk & Cotton Co

La Grange Interiors

Shubin + Donaldson

Freedom Café – My favourite place in Durban. I think something similar would make a really awesome little house in the Berg. All I’d need is insulation.

Peter Lippmann – Christian Louboutin

You may have seen the Christian Louboutin Fall campaign when it first appeared back in June. Since then, Peter Lippmann has gone on to win the International Photography award in the Fashion Pro category. I thought it was inspired at the time and the months haven’t done anything to diminish this. For those of you who missed it the first time around here’s the campaign with the inspiration for each image. I know it’s been done before but this will saving you cruising the web to find it.

My favourite is definitely The Marquise D’Antin followed closely by Elizabeth of Austria. The colours are amazing.

Peter Lippmann is an American-born photographer who has worked in Paris for the last 25 years. He specializes in still life, advertising, magazine work, food, and trompe l’oeil. Some of his clients include Christian Louboutin, Marie Claire, Cartier Art Magazine, the NY Times Magazine, the London Sunday Times, and Le Figaro among others.
