While cruising the interwebs this evening I stumbled on beachbonfire.tumblr. Right now I’m longing for a past I never had; a summer holiday in California in the seventies. How much fun? I love images from SoCal no matter what era they’re from so I kinda feel like I hit the jackpot. There are a ton of surfing, skating and general Summery photos on the site so check it out. In the meantime, here are some of my favourites.

Thanks to @bobnessmonster from Durban is Yours, I am now supremely jealous of these chicas from the Longboard Girls Crew. That one girl pulling those suicides is a legend.
Longboarding And Possible Broken Bones
I recently bought myself a Sector 9 longboard (specifically this one) and while I am in mortal fear of breaking my head open, this video is pretty awesome and makes me want to get out there and carve some pavement.
The problem in Durban is that people don’t know how to drive, so I reckon I’ll just stick to the beach front for now. The song is pretty cool too. I love me some Vetiver but the original of this song is still the best.

Con Amore – Christmas Party
Ché (Portfolio Design) and I went along to the Con Amore Christmas party tonight. I love this shop although I generally avoid it as I can’t stop myself from spending money. We had a wander or two around while sipping on Champagne and munching on sushi and I spotted my favourite cushions. Of course I had to have them, so I came away with a few snaps, a lighter wallet and a more decorative couch. There is a beautiful mirror I have my eye on but it will have to stay there for some other lucky soul as I have no space to put it.
Thanks to Charles, Maria, Candice and Debbie for the invite.
Industrial Living
I’m definitely loving the industrial revival going on at the moment. Raw brick, untreated wood, concrete flooring and exposed beams with large windows and truly iconic furniture. If I’m ever lucky enough to own a space as beautiful as some of the images below I will be one very happy bunny.
Freedom Café – My favourite place in Durban. I think something similar would make a really awesome little house in the Berg. All I’d need is insulation.
My Next House
So I’ve decided that when I win the European lottery or when some billionaire I’ve never met leaves me his entire fortune, I’m buying this house, sorry, mansion! It’s right in the heart of San Francisco with views of the bay and the Golden gate bridge and it’s going for a cool $32 million.
Originally built for a lumber magnate in 1910 by James Miller, it began its transformation to its current state in the late 90′s. The 16,000 square feet houses 7 bedrooms, 11 baths, several dining rooms, 2 kitchens, 2 family rooms, 2 offices, a basketball court, roof level deck and more!
I like that there is a clear difference between the formal rooms on the lower levels and the more informal ones higher up. I’d give anything to own a house that has such an awesome rooftop terrace. You can see some images below. For the whole shebang you can visit the website.
Passion Is Everything
People who are super good at their chosen careers literally eat, sleep and breathe what they do. It’s impossible to put effort into something if you don’t love it. One person who definitely doesn’t have this problem is Ché Hooper of Portfolio. She is intensely passionate about great interior design and it shows.
I love visiting them, the flat is light and airy with nice big rooms and high ceilings. I love to see what’s new or what’s been refurbished and I especially like to see what new colour has found its way into Che’s heart. Mostly Che inspires me to try harder and reach for something more than mediocrity. If we all followed our dreams and loved what we did I think we’d all be far happier.
The above pictures are just a few I took of the various bits and bobs artfully placed in a few of the rooms and on the balcony, where I love to sit in the hanging basket and look out over the city. Hope you all enjoyed Youth Day. I sure did.

If you like the bag in the top pic, it’s a Jo Totes camera bag and retails for around R850 incl. postage. Customs and tax roughly R100.

Con Amore Blogger Evening
Con Amore, La Lucia. I’ve heard about it, seen the website and now I’ve finally been there. When Ché from Portfolio blogged about the store recently and told me how beautiful all their bits and bobs were I knew I had to go. Luckily for me, it didn’t take long. Last night they hosted a bloggers evening where they plied us with yummy champagne, cupcakes, macaroons and sushi.
Con Amore is everything I thought it would be. Gorgeous furniture, stunning homeware and plenty of small decor items to keep me happy. Unfortunately my flat is tiny so all the lovely stuff I laid my eyes on will just have to stay in the store for now. I particularly like their soft furnishings, the metal skull and the to-die-for Chesterfield couch.
They are due to have a sample sale very soon so check back soon for all the details.
On another note, it was really great to finally meet some of the people I’ve been tweeting and whose blogs I’ve been reading.
Thank you Con Amore for a fab evening and the lovely gift.
