Midlands Dreaming

How gorgeous is Angie? I mean really, how pretty!! I bet all of you who know her are just as proud as I am right now (and a wee bit jealous). Last Sunday, while I was bundled up and complaining about the cold, Angie was swanning around the midlands in pretty much next to nothing. and boy was it worth it.  How beautiful is that blue dress by Eb+Am?

The photographer who made it all happen is Gabrielle Evans of Gabrielle’s Photography. Gabrielle is a freelance wedding and portrait photographer and works mostly in Umhlanga and PMB, where she grew up. She was lucky enough to study photography and work in a studio environment in the Cape before moving back to KZN.  In her own words:

I love photographing anything that moves, especially kids, models and weddings (not a landscape type of photographer)

If you’re looking for a photographer to capture your special moments then give Gabrielle a call on 074 137 4377 or email her on [email protected]

French Connection Shorts

I picked these beauties up at the French Connection store in Heathrow Airport on the way back to SA in January. I haven’t had a chance to wear them yet because one, it’s been seriously hot in Durban and two I’m still trying to find the perfect belt to wear them with. What do you think?

Spring 2012 – Colour Forecast

Ok I know I’m in SA and I’m two seasons early but I can’t wait for Spring. The colours are amazing. I’m so tired of all the drab grey’s and browns and we haven’t even hit Autumn yet. In a bid to bring a bit of sunshine to SA, when we hit midwinter I’m going to be wearing as many of these colours as I can.

Majority of images are taken from ASOS and products are currently available on the site.

Miss Dior Handbags- Spring 2012

How pretty are these Miss Dior campaign images? Mila Kunis is always beautiful but these pics, captured by Mikael Jansson, have a rather dreamlike quality to them that I really like.

Camera Couture

Good news girls and boys. Jo Totes and Kelly Moore bags are now available in South Africa. Camera Couture is an online store based in Cape Town. They haven’t been up and running for too long but they are growing at a steady pace and should soon offer more than just these two brands.

I own two Jo Totes bags, the Rose Moss and the Betsy Mustard. I’ve always wanted a Kelly Moore but will have to save a bit more for that. If you want to look less nerd and more style savvy fashionista then these bags are definitely for you.

The Rose bags comfortably fit an SLR body with a lens attached, a secondary lens, cleaning equipment, extra memory cards and your phone and purse. I personally don’t load my bag because when it gets heavy it gives me a bit of neck ache due to it only having one shoulder strap. The Betsy is a bit narrower which means that things don’t have as much room but it’s a great addition to any camera bag collection. The best thing is that you don’t even have to use them for camera equipment.

My ‘New’ Bag

How awesome is this bag? When Natalie from Minnie & Lulu said she would be getting some seriously vintage goodiess from a little old lady in Durban I was really rather excited. Last night she posted some pics of some of the bags and when I saw this gorgeous Dooney & Bourke Saddle Bag I had to contact Nat immediately and stake my claim.

What’s so amazing about this is that it was so well looked after. It’s never been used and still has the original guarantee card in an inside pocket. What’s more it came in it’s original bag to keep the dust off.

There will be more items popping up here and there and M&L still have a load of bags left. See their facebook page for the latest updates.

Bonnie & Clyde – Rag Trade

Robyn and Jess from Bonnie & Clyde and Natalie from Minnie & Lulu are holding an open day in the courtyard of the Corner Café (blog) on the last Saturday of every month. Rag Trade is a 2nd hand designer wear sale and you can get involved. Below are the instructions of how it works. If you are able to get some clothes to Robyn or Jess before the day to price, please contact them.  If you don’t have anything to sell it’ll be worth going along to have a squizz and drink some coffee.

Seeking the singular, Rag Trade specializes in barely new top quality local and international labels. Refashioning rewards the planet for your ingenuity – Less is More.

Step 1
Rid your closet of any new or lightly worn internationally and locally designed clothes & accessories you no longer wear but think others need to have. Love is Letting Go.

Step 2
Take your worthy candidates to the next Bonnie & Clyde Rag Trade Open Day at 9am. Sharing is Caring.

Step 3
To maintain consistency of design and standard, all worthy candidates are screened and some may have to go back home. Don’t take this personally. Sharing needs to be done carefully.

Step 4
You will then code and price your stuff and it will be put on sale. Shopping made Marvelous.

Step 5
Hang out for a look at all the other stuff on sale and a scrumptious cup of coffee. Caffeine is the start of many a Beautiful Friendship.

Step 6
Be back by 14:30 and one of two surprises await you:
a) If not sold, your pieces are to be taken home and steps 2 to 5 followed for the next Open Day.
b) If sold you get to choose between taking 50% of the sale price in cold hard cash or 65% in a Bonnie & Clyde or Rag Trade voucher. The voucher has a Happiness Back Guarantee.

Contact Jessica on 082 890 4096 or send an email.

Just as a quick note, M&L Studio are soon to be moving to the Corner Café as well. You will be able to get your caffeine fix while shopping for vintage goodies from Bonnie & Clyde or new designers from Minnie & Lulu. Can’t wait.

The Thrift Collection Is Turning One

Those of you who frequent the I Heart Market in Durban will know all about The Thrift Collection, which is soon to be turning one. As with any big occasion, they’re having a party. If that isn’t good enough for you, they will also be unveiling their new store.

The entire concept behind The Thrift Collection is sourcing previously-loved clothing and goods and selling it to the public at ridiculously low prices. Generally on a market day, if you get there early enough, you will find something worth buying. With this new store comes a much greater opportunity for you to find better quality items more often.

Having said all that I expect you to all be at the Alliance Francaise, fighting over all the goodies on Saturday, 27 August. On top of all this the Fat Croissant is in the same building so if you haven’t tried Tim’s food yet, now’s your chance.

Please spread the word and we’ll hopefully see you there.
