Market Days

I may have moved blogs but I didn’t want to leave everything behind. These are just a few photos of the I Heart Market. It’s held every first Saturday of the month at the DLI Hall from 9am – 2pm. They have really fantastic goodies for you buy.

Look out for Nadia from Cupcake Couture and Bevan and Pippa from The Thrift Collection. Nadia started a build-a-brooch stand at the last market, which I sadly missed, but I heard it was a complete hit. Definitely give it a try if you go. One thing I want to buy next time is pretty much anything from Genevieve Motley, I’ve seen a lot of similar work lately, but she is the original and best and you should support her.

The food at the market is also heavenly. The bacon rolls blow the socks of the ones at Essenwood and you have to follow that with some Macaroons from Daniela’s.

The 031 Collection

Mr Price is giving 8 finalists a chance to showcase their collections alongside established designers such as the Holmes Brothers, Leigh Schubert and Terrence Bray.

The winner will receive R20 000 to further their career, a mentorship programme within the Mr Price design & merchandise team and the opportunity to design a range to be sold in select Mr Price stores. How amazing is that?

It’s so awesome that a company as big as Mr Price is supporting local design talent to this extent, now if only more companies in other industries would follow suit.

Cowboy Up!

I have some kind of crazy thing for boots! I’ve never really been into the cute little ankle version but give me a pair of leather, knee high boots to stomp around in and I’m a happy camper. One thing I’ve always wanted is a pair of genuine, American-made cowgirl boots, except I’ve never really found any I’ve actually liked. They were either too brown, too white, too shiny or too drab… until now!!!

I was browsing the web yesterday when I came across Old Gringo boots. Oh my shattered nerves they’re all so beautiful, me being me, I had to have a pair. As in immediately!! What I found is that a lot of websites don’t ship to SA. This was highly distressing, so I left a post on Old Gringo’s FB page and went to sleep. This morning, joy of joys, there was a reply from a lovely lady called Lauren from RiverTrail Mercantile saying they could ship to SA and to have a look at their site. The second I hit their home page I was tickets because there before my very eyes were the most beautiful pair of boots I’ve ever seen.

And so… my new, Old Gringo Bonnie Brass boots are soon to be winging their way to SA. What do you think?

Crush Online Issue 7 – Out Now

One of my favourite online magazines has a new issue out. Crush Online is fast becoming one of the most popular digital mags in the country. With mouth watering recipes backed up by amazing photography, it’s all I can do not to drool.

Issue 7 includes recipes for Tomato braised Lamb shanks on polenta, Linguini with garlic and mushrooms, 4 ways with bananas and the usual delicious Monday to Sunday meal options. One of my favourite pages in the mag has to be the table spread. It reminds me of an old baking book my mom has with the pictures of all the yummy things to bake spread out, just waiting for someone to eat them.

If you think it’s all just recipes though, think again! They also have articles on wonderful places to visit, upcoming events and info on essential kitchen stuff you really should own. For all this and much, much more register on their website for FREE and they will mail you each issue as it is published.

A Little Bit of Narcissim

I’m not sure how much more narcissistic you can get than posting your own wedding photos but in any case, I’m doing it.

The entire lead up to the wedding was pretty much stress free as Greensleeves handled most of it, Roy and I just coasted along doing whatever anyone else told us to do. If you are getting married I highly recommend getting hold of Tracy at Greensleeves and having a gander at the packages they offer.

Our wedding photographer was James Carlsen. He’s from the South Coast of KZN, but is willing to travel. I’ve edited the photos a bit to give them a bit more of an old school feel, so please visit James’ site or his facebook page to get a better feel for his style.
